This is a timeline of significant events in anarchist history.

Prehistory - Human species evolves over thousands of years in societies and communities that have many anarchistic qualities, including mutual aid, solidarity and cooperation.

600 BCE - Lao Tzu writes the Tao Te Ching
333 BCE - Greek philosopher and one of the earliest proponents of anarchist concepts Zeno of Citium born.
1649 - The Diggers
1793 - William Godwin publishes Enquiry Concerning Political Justice.
1840 - Pierre Proudhon becomes the first to self-proclaim himself an anarchist in his work Qu'est-ce que la propriete? (What is Property?)
1871 - Paris Commune
1872 - Breakup of the International and founding of the St. Imier International
1886 - Haymarket Massacre
1910 - Emma Goldman publishes Anarchism and Other Essays.
1911 - Twelve Japanese anarchists were executed.
1918 - Italian Factory Occupations
1918-1921 - The Makhnovshchina
1919 - Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman are deported for their anti-war activity and anarchist politics
1921 - Kronstadt Rebellion
1927 - Sacco and Vanzetti
1936 - Spanish Revolution
1956 - Hungarian Revolution
1968 - May 1968 - Worldwide revolt and rebellion.
1999 - WTO Protests
2001 - Argentine Riots
2006 - May Day 2006
2009 - Greek Riots in Exarcheia
